Christian Hope and the End of the World: Sat 10th November

How should we answer to forecasts of the stop of the earth and a coming apocalypse? Will there be a 'tribulation' and a 'rapture'? And what does the Bible really say near the finish of the world and the return of Jesus?

These questions keep swirling around—merely it is non always piece of cake to find sensible answers.

In this accessible study morning, we will look carefully at the teaching of Jesus, Paul and others in the New Testament to see what they really idea, including:

  • What did people believe in New Testament times?
  • How did Jesus teaching change that?
  • How do nosotros make sense of hard passages, like Mark 13, Matt 24 and 1 Thess 4?
  • What are the 'rapture' and the 'tribulation' and are they in the Bible?
  • What is the meaning of the millennium?
  • How is the mod State of Israel connected with the NT?
  • How should nosotros respond to predictions of Jesus' return?

It turns out that expectation of 'the terminate' was important to the first followers of Jesus—but in ways very different from what we might detect in the latest Hollywood blockbuster.

As we approach Appearance, with its exploration of the theme of Christian hope, this is a great time to sort out our understanding of this important New Testament idea.

The stop will run at Christ Church, Chilwell from 10 to 1, with coffee available from 9.30.
